Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot is a dangerous man. He is an expert marksman and ruthless assassin who will complete whatever mission he’s contracted for (or forced to do) no matter what. A villain and regular member of the Suicide Squad, Deadshot was created by David Vern Reed and Lew Sayre Schwartz.

He was introduced 75 years ago in Batman #59 (June 1950) and as could be expected, the professional killer had a tragic childhood. Floyd and his brother Eddie were born into a wealthy family. Their mother, Genevieve, was a sharp shooter who won competitions and controlled banking businesses, while their father, George, was successful in real estate and was influential with the local police. Despite their impressive status in public, Floyd’s parents were miserable, hated each other, and constantly ridiculed him for not succeeding like his brother.

When Floyd was 12 years old and Eddie was in his mid-teens, their mother told the boys that their father was abusive and was unfaithful to her. Genevieve then did the unthinkable and asked her sons to kill their dad for her. Shocked, Floyd tried to warn his father, but Eddie locked him in a nearby boat house, went in the house to kill their dad, and locked the door.

Floyd escaped, got a hunting rifle, and climbed a tree to see what was happening inside the house. Upon seeing that his brother was about to shoot their dad, Floyd fired his rifle hoping to disarm his brother. Sadly, the tree branch he was on crashed under his weight and he accidentally killed Eddie while his brother shot their dad.

George was injured, but survived and since he didn’t want to tarnish the family’s reputation, he told the cops that an assassin tried to kill him, and Eddie died saving his dad. The vindictive man then swore not to divorce his wife, instead he forced her to live in a separate, smaller house with only a small amount of money to live on.

Floyd left town after graduating from high school, and met David Cain, a member of the League of Assassins. Cain trained Floyd to become a marksman, a fighter, and taught him military tactics, turning Floyd into the living weapon known as Deadshot.
