DC Reveals Batman/Deadpool Covers & Backup Stories
The Caped Crusader and the Merc with a Mouth are crossing paths this fall in a pair of one-shots from the Big Two. The action starts in Deadpool/Batman #1 from Marvel, then continues at DC in Batman/Deadpool #1. DC has revealed a slate of variant covers featuring characters from both publishers and announced the backup stories that will appear in the book.
The story begins in Deadpool/Batman when Wade Wilson is hired to do a job in Gotham City where he naturally catches the attention of Batman. The Caped Crusader has zero patience for Deadpool’s shenanigans, and a plot by the Joker could be the only thing that will make them work together.
Batman/Deadpool #1 is written by longtime Batman scribe Grant Morrison and illustrated by Batman/Superman: World’s Finest artist Dan Mora
“One character broods in the shadows of trauma and justice. The other cartwheels through chaos, breaking the fourth wall and occasionally the laws of physics. Together, they’re forced to confront a threat that doesn’t just endanger their worlds – it questions their very existence as fictional constructs,” per the description.
The book comes with four bonus stories by several talents. Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson, and Hayden Sherman deliver a magical meeting between Constantine and Doctor Strange. Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo tell the tale of Nightwing and Laura Kinney/Wolverine’s interaction. Mariko Tamaki and Amanda Conner present a chaotic showdown between Harley Quinn and the Hulk. G. Willow Wilson and Denys Cowan bring the energy with a Static and Ms. Marvel crossover.
Batman/Deadpool #1 has a main cover by Dan Mora, and several cardstock variants including a foil variant of Mora’s cover and a wraparound blank blue cardstock sketch variant. The variant covers featuring Batman and Deadpool were created by Frank Quitely, Bill Sienkiewicz illustrated an Incredible Hulk #340 homage, and Ryan Sook drew a Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 homage.
The variants also include the Joker/Doctor Doom by Lee Bermejo, Zatanna/Scarlet Witch by Mark Brooks, Wonder Woman/Captain America by Jim Cheung and Jay David Ramos, Harley Quinn/Hulk by Amanda Conner and Alex Sinclair, Batman/Punisher by Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin, Wonder Woman/Storm by Jenny Frison, Robin/Gambit by Andy Kubert and Alejandro Sánchez, Big Barda/Savage Land Rogue by Jae Lee and June Chung, Batman/Wolverine by Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Alex Sinclair, Wonder Woman/Ms. Marvel by Alexander Lozano, Lobo/Deadpool by Sean Murphy and Simon Gough, Nightwing/Laura Kinney Wolverine by Bruno Redondo, John Constantine/Doctor Strange by Hayden Sherman, and Catwoman/Emma Frost by Sozomaika.
The 64-page Batman/Deadpool #1 one-shot will be in stores on November 19. It is preceded by Deadpool/Batman #1 on September 17.
