DC Comics Intern Art Collection on ComicConnect
It was the summer of ’69, Dave’s senior year as a Fine Arts & Design major at Ohio University and he scored a dream internship at DC Comics. For the next semester, the home of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman would be his workplace.
However, interning in the Big Apple for one of the biggest comic book publishers in the world wasn’t quite the glitzy, big-city job he hoped it would be. Instead of hobnobbing with Editor-In-Chief Julie Schwartz, he was making coffee and running errands, which included throwing out the garbage.
One fateful evening while tossing out the umpteenth bag of junk, Dave noticed several large pieces of paper. He split the bag open and found the original artwork to four published Silver Age covers by top DC greats Curt Swan, Murphy Anderson, Win Mortimer, and Neal Adams. In an instant, he realized how sad it was to find such important pieces of art in the trash and he knew could not let these treasures be lost to history.
Over the course of Dave’s life the art traveled with him from coast to coast. For almost forty-five years, they’ve been a part of his life. With Dave’s pending retirement, he’s decided it’s time for them to find a new home.
The covers to Adventure Comics #384, Flash #193, Superman #213, and World’s Finest #182 will be sold with no reserve in the ComicConnect Fall Event Auction.
Bidding begins September 2, 2013 at noon EDT.
