In Auction #221, Hake’s Americana & Collectibles continues to deliver a great lineup of musical acts and talented artists in their concert poster offerings. Interested collectors can view all of the posters on Hake’s website.

One of the standouts in this auction is lot 2391 a Hank Williams and His Drifting Cowboys 1949 tour blank poster. The 11” x 17” poster was designed so that the place, date, and admission could be hand printed per event. Williams and his wife Audrey appear in the center photo along with the Drifting Cowboys.

Lot 2394 houses an outstanding Bill Haley and His Comets 1955 boxing style poster. The 14” x 22” poster advertises their Sunday, May 22 concert in Womelsdorf, PA. It depicts a classic promo graphic of Haley and His Comets and their group tagline, “The Shake Rattle and Roll Boys.”

A rare 1964 Caravan of Record Stars concert poster is in lot 2401. Featuring The Supremes, the 22” x 28-1/8” poster has a photo of Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard. It lists 14 other acts, such as The Drifters, Bobby Freeman, The Hondels, Dee Dee Sharp, and Jimmy Ford.

Get ready for The Beatles Shea Stadium “Shindig!” and New York Folk Festival handbill pair in lot 2411. The single-sided handbills, measuring 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, are for May through August events in 1965.

Lot 2443 has the popular BG-2 Big Brother and the Holding Company poster featuring Batman. The 14” x 20” third printing of the poster for the Fillmore Auditorium concerts on March 18-20, 1966 was graded CGC 9.8.

Another cool Bill Graham series poster is BG-42 Jefferson Airplane signed by Grace Slick in lot 2444. Graded CGC 9.6, the 14” x 22-1/8” poster advertises the December 16-18, 1966 concerts at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. It was also signed by artist Wes Wilson.

In lot 2480, collectors will find the Janis Joplin BG-165 poster, postcard, and ticket. The first printing poster, measuring 14” x 21”, advertises the March 20-23, 1969 concerts at the Fillmore West and Winterland. It’s accompanied by postcard and three of four tickets.

A rare The Doors Cobo Arena 1968 Gary Grimshaw concert poster is in lot 2485. This original first printing on medium white stock measures 13” x 22”. It promotes the May 11 concert with The Doors, James Cotton Blues Band, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and Jagged Edge.

Lot 2486 houses the rare, key Grande Ballroom Shiva concert poster. With art by Gary Grimshaw, the 12-1/4” x 22” poster promotes shows on September 23-25, 1967 for Up with Southbound Freeway and Billy S. and the Sunshine, as well as others.

In lot 2494, collectors will find a Woodstock Festival first printing. The pre-concert 24” x 36” large format poster advertises the August 15-17, 1969 festival with musicians like Ravi Shankar, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jeferson Airplane, Santana, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and many others.
