A copy of Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.8 soared to $32,500 and New Mutants #98 CGC 9.8 reached $1,265 in ComicLink’s recent Featured Auction. Both issues are highly sought by collectors, with Incredible Hulk #181 featuring the first full appearance of Wolverine and New Mutants #98 containing the debut of Deadpool. The books, which sold on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, both set new records for the high grade condition.

The previous record for a CGC 9.8 graded copy of Incredible Hulk #181 was $30,000, which was sold in January of this year, on ComicLink Exchange, according to ComicLink CEO Josh Nathanson.

Incredible Hulk #181 is unquestionably the most popular comic book published in the last 50 years among collectors,” Nathanson said. “A popular back issue for over 40 years now, sales in all grades have been especially brisk over the past couple of years. Wolverine has long been one of the top heroes in both comic books and movies. With the recent completion of the sale of Fox Studios to Disney, the movie rights to Wolverine and his fellow X-Men are finally with Marvel Studios, where they belong. Millions of fans worldwide can’t wait to see Wolverine interacting with their other Marvel favorites on the big screen.”

By introducing the comical antihero Deadpool, New Mutants #98 has become one of the most popular comic books published during the past 30 years. This sale tops the over 2,000 copies previously sold in the same grade.

These result were among the many record setting results achieved this week within the 3-day comic book session of ComicLink’s Featured Auction. They will close the auction on Tuesday, September 4, with the original comic book and fantasy art session.

The firm is busy gathering consignments for upcoming auctions, including the September Focused Auction beginning on September 13, the October Focused Auction, the Fall Featured Auction beginning in November and other upcoming auctions. Interested sellers can contact ComicLink at buysell@comiclink.com or (617) 517-0062 (option 1) to speak with Josh Nathanson, Douglas Gillock, Jason Crosby, Jon Signorelli, or Ross Kearney. Upfront cash advances are available upon request.
