ComicConnect is still adding vintage comics and original art to their upcoming Event Auction 65. This includes scarce high grade books as part of the Collection of Eric Groves.

Groves was widely known in comics circles for his collection, and Event Auction 65 brings in a selection of his high grade Golden Age books that are available at auction for the first time. Those include a Detective Comics #1 8.5 and Action Comics #10 8.0 with Joe Shuster’s third Superman cover, alongside keys like Flash Comics #1, Mystery Men #1, and Plastic Man’s debut in Police Comics #1 9.0.

The collection also ranges from the pioneering superheroes of Action Comics and Captain America Comics to Groves’ personal favorites such as Famous Funnies and Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories. Many of these comics were first gathered by Groves as a child in Philadelphia. His hobby was then briefly put on hold as he attended law school before becoming a respected attorney and councilman in Oklahoma City while supporting the arts across the state.

Groves would also join the pioneering Oklahoma Alliance of Fandom in putting together early comics conventions of the 1960s. His renewed fandom saw him going on to decades as an Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide advisor while discovering scarce titles in his travels across the American Midwest.

“Eric Groves was an important collector and an insightful comics historian,” ComicConnect President Vincent Zurzolo said. “More importantly, he was a good friend and all-around great guy. We were deeply saddened when Eric passed away last year at the age of 82, and it’s a real honor to present these rare books to the next generation of collectors.”

Event Auction 65 is continuing to take consignments through Monday, February 9, 2026. Original art consignors can reach out to Micah Spivak at micahs@comicconnect.com; sellers can also contact Peter Barbella at peterb@comicconnect.com, or ComicConnect at (212) 260-4147 and toll free at (888) 779-7377.
