ComicConnect’s Death of Superman Art Auction Sees Record Sales
ComicConnect’s “Death of Superman” Special Edition Art Auction closed on Sunday, April 12, 2026, with over $10.2 million in sales. Dan Jurgens’ Superman #75 cover art joined the ranks of million dollar art and the issue’s “Bloody S” Superman logo set a new record for comic production art.
The “Death of Superman” Art Auction offered the near-complete art from Jurgens’ Superman #75, which became a defining moment in DC’s groundbreaking “Death of Superman” event. By the end of bidding, Jurgens’ Superman #75 cover sold for $1.875 million. That ranks Jurgens’ work alongside Mike Zeck’s introduction of Spider-Man’s symbiotic costume in Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8 and Frank Miller’s cover for Dark Knight Rises #1 as original comic art pieces that have sold for over $1 million.
Over half of the Superman #75 pieces by Jurgens and inked by Brett Breeding passed the $200,000 mark, with 12 pieces in the $400,000 range. That includes the triple gatefold splash page featuring a distraught Lois Lane holding the deceased Superman bringing down the hammer at $828,115.
Other sales included page 28 of Lois holding the vanquished Superman going for $797,333, page 21 sold for $462,300, and the issue’s page 3 splash cleared $460,128 presented images from one of the most notorious battles.
The auction added to its success with consignor Keith Veronese bringing in the rare original art of the “Bloody S” Superman logo showcased on the black polybag for Superman #75. This defining symbol for the event closed at $552,000, setting a new record for comic production art.
Superman #75 famously sold over six million copies while making history as the issue that killed off Superman in a brutal battle against the alien Doomsday. The best-selling book would set up the continuing “Funeral for a Friend” and “Reign of the Supermen” crossover stories that ran between many DC titles.
ComicConnect is still taking consignments for Event Auction 66. Original art consignors can reach out to Micah Spivak at micahs@metropoliscomics.com; sellers can also contact Peter Barbella at peterb@metropoliscomics.com, or call (212) 260-4147 and toll free at (888) 779-7377.
