ComicConnect’s Event Auction 63 has already seen stellar success from the debut of the True North Collection with the sale of a Detective Comics #27 CGC 8.5 Restored for $520,950. This copy of Batman’s debut set a new record for the sale of a Restored Batman comic, according to ComicConnect.

This copy of Detective Comics #27 comes from the True North Collection of carefully curated first appearances. There are only five Restored copies of this classic comic graded higher in the CGC Census, with this copy featuring a Moderate professional restoration of the major key that was originally published in 1939.

This sale follows ComicConnect setting a new record for all Restored comics when an Action Comics #1 sold for $794,650 in 2024. Event Auction 63’s introduction of the True North Collection included other restored books, nearly all of which were restored by the team of Matt and Emily Meyers.

“I’ve seen many restoration experts with varying degrees of skills and specialties, but I’ve never seen anybody with the skill, talent, technique, and artistry that Emily and Matt possess,” ComicConnect President Vincent Zurzolo said. “These are some of the best-looking restored copies of Golden Age keys that I have seen in my nearly 40-year career in comics.”

Other impressive sales for these rare restorations included a Captain America Comics #1 9.4 at $133,528, and restored Batman #1 9.4 and Superman #1 9.4 each sold for $121,900. Marvel Comics #1 9.4 sold for $96.000, while Robin’s debut in Detective Comics #38 9.4 went for $21,850. All-Star Comics #8 9.6 went for $35,651 and Sub-Mariner Comics #1 9.6 cleared $16,100, also setting new records for restored copies of the books.

The original owner of the True North Collection also has a restored Action Comics #1 9.4 that will go through a private ComicConnect sale. “As the prices for unrestored comics increase, so will those for restored copies. They become more desirable and attainable as they are ‘more affordable,’ comparatively speaking,” Zurzolo said.

“We put so much love and time into our work,” Emily Meyers said. “There’s some restoration out there that’s not well done. But I think as time goes on and techniques improve, there will be more openness within the community.”
