ComicConnect Event Auction #44 Tops $4.56 Million

Golden and Silver Age comics and original art propelled ComicConnect’s Event Auction #44 to their best of the year. The auction, which also featured pulps, video games, Pokémon, and more, closed with $4.56 million in sales.

“Event Auction #44 wrapped up 2020 with a ribbon and bow as thousands of bidders placed millions of dollars in bids concluding our most successful auction of the year,” Vincent Zurzolo, ComicConnect COO said. Zurzolo also noted that record sales were achieved during the auction.

Event Auction #44 Golden Age highlights included Action Comics #13 CGC 9.0 R $24,500, All Flash Quarterly #1 CGC 9.2 $20,125, All Select Comics #1 CGC 8.5 $47,833, Batman #1 CGC 6.5 R $37,007, Captain America Comics #1 CGC 5.0 R $32,350, Detective Comics #37 CGC 8.0 $35,000, Fantastic Comics #8 CGC 9.6 $19,000, More Fun Comics #54 CGC 9.0 $41,611 and #55 CGC 9.4 $88,000, Pep Comics #34 CGC 5.5 $23,199, and Superman #1 CGC 3.0 $310,111.

Silver Age and more sales are Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 9.8 R $42,222 and CGC 5.5 $40,500, Amazing Spider-Man #6 CGC 9.6 $15,000, Avengers #1 CGC 9.0 $36,500, Fantastic Four #1 CGC 7.0 $56,000 and #5 CGC 9.2 $65,000, Flash #105 CGC 9.4 $58,000, Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.8 $47,500, Strange Tales #110 CGC 9.4 $47,944, and X-Men #1 CGC 8.5 $51,000.

Original comic art sales were topped by the cover to Amazing Spider-Man #162 by Ross Andru and John Romita $124,200, Frank Miller and Klaus Janson’s cover to Daredevil #166 $100,050, Gene Colan’s cover to Daredevil #40 $65,000, X-Men #105 double-page spread by Dave Cockrum $46,000, Amazing Spider-Man #313 page by Todd McFarlane $24,888, Gil Kane’s Doctor Strange #8 cover $23,575, Frank Miller’s Detective Comics #27 variant cover $20,000, Howard Chaykin’s American Flagg! portfolio plate $17,700, the Star*Reach #1 cover by Jim Starlin $15,300, Bob Oksner’s Lois Lane #122 cover $14,644, and a page from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman #67 by Marc Hempel $13,700.

The deadline for the upcoming auction catalog is January 15, 2021 at 12 PM. “I’m looking to add comics, original comic art, video games, Pokémon booster boxes, and just about any collectible. Call me.”
