ComicConnect Event Auction #44 Pulps Results
Notable artists and writers who began their careers in pulp magazines would go on to become prominent figures in the comic book industry. As such, their appeal for collectors expands beyond pulp collectors to also include comics fans.
“Slowly and surely, we’ve observed an uphill trend in both interest and values of pulp magazines, and, based on the results of our recent Event Auction, things are definitely looking up for these beloved relics of days gone by,” ComicConnect COO Vincent Zurzolo said.
Highlights of the top pulp sales in ComicConnect’s Event Auction were Saucy Detective #2 $948.75, Spicy Mystery Stories Vol. 2 #5 $690.00 and Vol. 5 #3 $690.00, Uncanny Tales Vol. 2 #6 $684.25, Mystery Tales Vol. 2 #4 $572.70, Dime Detective Magazine Vol. 26 #2 $466.90, and The Shadow Vol. 19 #5 $402.50.
“There’s rumblings that CGC could start certifying pulp magazines in the future and these classics are poised to make a big time comeback with ComicConnect at the tip of the spear of this up and coming investment,” Zurzolo said.
Throughout 2020, ComicConnect reported that they have purchased numerous pulp collections and are accepting consignments for upcoming auctions. They can be reached at buying@metropoliscomics.com or by calling toll free (888) 779-7377 to discuss lists for consignment.
“We are very pleased to see the renewed enthusiasm for pulp magazines, as the incredible stories and fascinating cover art deserve a respected place in the history of American pop culture,” Zurzolo said. “If pulps never existed, we would not have comic books, and that would just be a tragedy. ComicConnect is excited to explore this marketplace with our clientele, and we look forward to buying, selling, and auctioning these historic, classic treasures.”
