ComicConnect’s Special Edition Amazing Spider-Man Original Art Auction ends soon on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The Special Edition Amazing Spider-Man Original Art Auction features a page from John Romita’s debut on the title with 1966’s Amazing Spider-Man #39. Page 15 by the future Marvel star shows the moment that Green Goblin first discovered Spider-Man’s secret identity.

That story set up one of Spider-Man’s worst continuing threats, ultimately leading to the industry-wide impact of Gwen Stacy’s death in issue 121. Pages from issues 96 and 97 penciled by Gil Kane and inked by Romita are also offered in the auction. Those issues are notably when Kane debuted on the title and the first mainstream comics published without clearance from the Comics Code Authority.

The US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare approached Stan Lee about using a Marvel title to warn young people about the dangers of drug abuse. At the time, however, the Comics Code Authority still banned any depiction of narcotics or drug use under its general decency rules.

Lee decided to focus on Harry Osborn’s drug addiction as part of a new Green Goblin storyline in Amazing Spider-Man #96 and #97 – without the CCA approval seal on the cover. This story was part of major changes for both Marvel and DC, with Green Lantern and Green Arrow soon addressing drug use in their own comics.

In addition to Kane and Romita’s work, ComicConnect is also offering pages from issue 97 with inks by Frank Giacoia, who stepped in for Romita to handle the majority of that issue’s interior pages. Issues 96 and 97 also showcase Stan Lee’s storytelling near the end of his 100-issue run on the book.
