Leonard “L.B.” Cole was a comic book artist, editor, and publisher who worked during the Golden and Silver Ages of comics. Cole was a master at contrasting vivid colors with backgrounds and outlines to create memorable covers. He employed those skills to illustrate monsters, rocket ships flying through space, dramatic crime covers, and even swoon-worthy romance.

During a recent valuation update, Overstreet Pricing Editor Yolanda Ramirez found strong growth for books showcasing covers by L.B. Cole. Contact Comics #12 (July 1946), featuring one of Cole’s sci-fi space covers, is now priced at $16,000 at the Near Mint-/9.2 level. The book has gone up in value by $2,000. Cole drew Dr. Macabre, a skull, and little devils on the cover of Catman Comics #28 (June 1945). The book has seen a 16.7% increase and is now valued at $14,000 in Near Mint-.

The Captain Flight Comics #11 (February 1947) cover features Torpedo Man up against menacing foes as a red rocket flies over them. The book has seen a $2,000 increase at the 9.2 level and is now valued at $15,000. Cole’s Captain Aero Comics #26 (August 1946) cover hits the sci-fi checklist with ships, aliens, and planets in the background. The book is now up to $9,500 at the 9.2 level, showing $1,000 in growth.
