The secondary comic market regularly ebbs and flows as book sales go through moderate changes, and occasionally see big jumps (or falls) in value. Overstreet Access tracks these changes through diligent research into the market and via assessment of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide marketing reports. The last years of the Golden Age of comics reflected a decreasing interest in superheroes, and the rise of other genres like science fiction, romance, and crime. Editorial and creative teams at DC Comics spent time retooling their heroes and creating new ones, leading to the rise of the Silver Age. One of the new heroes who built on the established reputation of a Golden Age great was Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

Hal was a test pilot from Earth who was chosen to become the new Green Lantern when previous ring-wielder Abin Sur died. He was introduced in Showcase #22 (October 1959), then Hal began starring in his own book in Green Lantern #1 (August 1960). Overstreet Pricing Editor Yolanda Ramirez recently reevaluated Green Lantern Vol. 2, noting that a few books have seen a jump in value and at least one has decreased.

The first few issues have remained the same. Green Lantern #7 (July 1961) with the first appearance of Sinestro is now valued at $4,100 in 9.2/Near Mint- condition. That reflects a $200 and 5.1% increase. Green Lantern #9 (December 1961) featuring the second appearance of Sinestro, his first cover, and the debut of the Jordan brothers has risen to $1,800 at the 9.2 level. It has seen a 12.5% and $200 increase from the last valuation.

Several of the first 100 issues have seen $50 increases with a few at $10 and some at $100, while others have remained the same. The one issue in that group that has decreased in value is Green Lantern #100 (January 1978). A 9.2 copy of the milestone 100th issue has gone down to $16, showing a decrease in value of $29 and 64.4%.
