We’re just one month away from the release of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. While the excitement continues to build, Star Wars and comics fans in southern California will have the chance to enjoy the series before the premiere.

The San Diego Comic Art Gallery will host the Comic Book Art of Star Wars exhibition, running November 21, 2015 through January 31, 2016. The exhibit will feature 30 pieces of Star Wars art from the first comic series that Marvel released in 1977. The majority of the art comes from the first six issues, which were adapted from George Lucas’ Star Wars film in ’77. There are many key and historically significant pieces in the exhibit.

Most of the art was created by comic artist Howard Chaykin, who also created the first Star Wars movie poster. He’ll be at the gallery on Saturday, November 21 from 5 PM to 8 PM to sign copies of Star Wars Artifact Edition.

The book is a 12” x 17” oversized hardcover art book with a beautiful selection of Star Wars pages. It also has other pieces of Star Wars art that are not in the exhibit. Each page was scanned from the original art and printed in the same size as the artboards. The book will be in comic book stores on December 9 and can be ordered through IDW’s website.
