A rare, 100-plus year-old Honus Wagner baseball card that was owned by actor Charlie Sheen when it was stolen from a New York City restaurant in 1998 is coming to auction. The card will be offered in an online auction in March 2022 and is expected to sell for $3 million or more. The card’s current owner is donating all of the proceeds to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Oklahoma.

“This is the famous 1909-1911 era, T206 series Honus Wagner card that Charlie Sheen loaned for display at the Official All Star Café in Times Square. The restaurant’s investors included sports celebrities Andre Agassi, Wayne Gretzky, Ken Griffey Jr., Joe Montana, Shaquille O’Neal, and Tiger Woods,” Brian Drent, president of Mile High Card Company, said.

“A few years after the card was recovered by the FBI, Sheen sold it in 2001 for $75,000, a record price at the time for a Wagner card in this condition. The current owner is an Oklahoma business executive who acquired it over a decade ago for $400,000. I anticipate it will sell for at least $3 million,” Drent said.

“The consignor, who wants to remain anonymous, will donate all his proceeds to a Boys & Girls Club in Oklahoma. He’s also giving all the proceeds from other sports cards and memorabilia he’s consigned to our auction, so the club could receive a total donation of $7 million or more,” Drent added.

Bidding on the card opens on March 10 and will run through March 31 at www.milehighcardco.com.

“Despite its worn condition, it is valued in the millions because the legendary T206 series Wagner cards are considered ‘The Holy Grail’ of baseball cards. Less than 80 are known to exist, and this one has an amazing backstory of celebrity ownership, theft, and recovery,” Drent said. “It is known in the hobby as ‘the Charlie Sheen All Star Café Honus Wagner,’ and is a celebrity of its own.”
