Cartoon Art at Ohio State
The 2007 Festival of Cartoon Art is only three weeks away. Organized by the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library, there’s a lot going on. Guests can enjoy presentations on graphic storytelling by top cartoonists, scholars, and comic professionals. With the price of admission, you can enjoy all presentations, special pre-conference events, exhibit catalogue for Milton Caniff: American Master and School of Caniff, morning refreshments and lunch at the Renaissance Hotel, a special exhibit reception at The Ohio State University, and a tote bag souvenir. Paul Pope, Arnold Roth, and David Saylor have been added to the list of speakers at the festival.
Paul Pope has worked in alternative comics, manga, superhero comics, and graphic design. For five years he worked with Kodansha, leading Japanese manga publisher. He created the series THB in 1995, and has published the graphic novels, The One Trick-Rip-Off and Heavy Liquid.
Arnold Roth is an award-winning cartoonist and illustrator. His work has been featured in The New Yorker, TIME, Sports Illustrated, Playboy, Punch, and the New York Times. He will be joining the panel, Remembering Milton: A Gathering of Friends.
David Saylor is the vice president and creative director for Scholastic Books. He has designed the U.S. editions for the Harry Potter series and will be joining the panel of graphic novel publishers.
Festival of Cartoon Art will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Columbus, Ohio, October 25-27, 2007. Registration is $150 for adults, $25 for students and seniors 65 and over. Spaces are still available for guests. Note that hotel reservations must be made by October 14, 2007 to get the rate of $109 per night. Registration forms are available here.
