Capes, the long out of print comic set in the Invincible universe, is heading back to comic shops over 20 years after its debut. Skybound and Image Comics announced that Capes has undergone a remastering with new art and dialogue from the original creative team of Robert Kirkman (Invincible) and Mark Englert (Hack/Slash). The updated issues begin with a new line of covers that will appear on Capes #1, in comic shops in November 2025.

“Okay, first of all, Capes is a riot and features some of the best characters in the Invincible Universe,” Senior Editor Nachie Marsham said. “But, as you’ll see in the books, it’s also a cool way to showcase Kirkman and Englert’s storytelling and ideas over the years, and a chance to see what’s coming in the future.”

Capes is set at Capes, Inc. where heroes like Bolt, Kid Thor, Knock Out, Captain Cosmic, Claire Voyant, Big Brain, and Commander Capitalism protect New York City from threats like Machine Head and Titan. The book is being reprinted for the first time since its original release.

The updated first issue features covers by Invincible series artists, contributing creator Ryan Ottley, and co-creator Cory Walker. Ottley provided the main cover, there are two covers by Mark Englert, a 1:10 incentive variant by Walker, a 1:25 incentive variant by Jahnoy Lindsay, a 1:50 incentive black and white variant by Ottley, and a blank sketch cover.

There will also be new Capes stories by Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Blood & Thunder) with art by Englert. They begin in Capes #7 and will be released in 2026.

Capes #1 flies back into comic book stories on November 19.
