Noir comic greats Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are teaming up once again for the paranoid thriller, Unfinished Tales. The duo behind Reckless, The Fade Out, and Criminal are putting together a story filled with twists and turns in this graphic novel from Images Comics. The book is scheduled to arrive in the winter of 2026.

Image described Unfinished Tales as “Stephen King’s Misery meets The Talented Mr. Ripley.” The graphic novel is centered around Finnegan Blake, one of the world’s most successful authors and his bestselling books have been adapted into a very successful TV show. Despite that success, Finn is struggling because he is ten years late delivering the last book in his fantasy series and is wrestling with a terrible case of writer’s block.

That’s when an old friend arrives with an idea on how to restart his writing process. Unfortunately, the pact they make takes a dark turn and both writers have serious egos that cause friction between them. While dealing with those challenges, Finn will learn how far he’ll go – maybe even murder – to finish the book and ensure it reaches the bestseller list.

“This is one of my favorite books we’ve ever done. I’ve always been fascinated by why people write, or in this case, why they don’t, and so I took the idea of writers block and ran into the darkness with it,” Brubaker said. “Unfinished Tales is a deep dive into the world of writers and publishing, the pressure to succeed, and what that may cost you. It’s also a very $#@%&! up thriller about egos and ambition, because it’s about writers.”

The Unfinished Tales hardcover is scheduled for release in comic shops on November 11.
