Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz in Talks to Reunite for New Mummy Movie
The Mummy franchise that began in 1999 is working to conjure a sequel with the original series stars. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who starred in The Mummy in ’99 and The Mummy Returns in 2001, are in talks to return for a new Mummy sequel.
Radio Silence, the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, are set to direct the movie. They are known for directing the clever horror-comedy Ready or Not and for the fifth and sixth Scream movies.

Set in Egypt in the 1920s, The Mummy introduced Fraser as treasure hunting adventurer Rick O’Connell and Weisz as plucky librarian Evelyn – both of whom have a breadth of knowledge about ancient Egypt. When the Mummy is awoken, they team up to stop him before he is fully restored to power. The movie embraces some of the frightening aspects of earlier Mummy movies, added a charming romance between the leads, and the excitement of a historical adventure.
Fraser and Weisz reunited for The Mummy Returns, then Fraser was back for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor with Maria Bello in the role of Evelyn. The franchise also included The Scorpion King prequel starring Dwayne Johnson and an animated series.
The new movie is described as a sequel of the first two films with David Coggeshall writing the screenplay. It will be produced by Sean Daniel, who produced the original late ‘90s/early 2000s Mummy movies. The producing team will also include William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment. They have teamed with Radio Silence on previous projects like Scream 5, Scream 6, and Abigail.
