Bob Camp, J. David Spurlock Head to Texas
Bob Camp (co-creator The Ren and Stimpy Show) and J. David Spurlock (bestselling comics historian) will be guests at North Texas Comic Book Show next weekend. The convention will be held at The Irving Convention Center on July 15-16, 2017.
Camp and Spurlock were both raised in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area then moved to New York. Camp’s career began by doing caricatures at Six Flags locations in Texas, then after relocating in New York he worked on Conan and The ’Nam for Marvel. He became an animator, director, writer, and storyboard artist on several cartoons, including co-creating The Ren and Stimpy Show and working on the latest SpongeBob SquarePants movie.
Spurlock taught art at the University of Texas and headed the Dallas Society of Illustrators. He has written about 40 books and worked with many talented members of the comics community like Frank Frazetta, Jim Steranko, Neal Adams, Carmine Infantino, John Buscema, Joe Kubert, Wally Wood, John Romita, Al Williamson, Jeffrey Jones, Frank Brunner, and Julius Schwartz, among others.
At North Texas Comic Book Show, Camp will sign autographs, do sketches, and lead singalongs of songs from his creation. Spurlock will present a collection of his work ‒ including Wally Wood Estate projects ‒ and will sign autographs, offer 20% discount on most softcovers, and answer questions.
