The Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation and Macmillan Publishers have opened the application process for the Macmillan Booksellers Professional Development Scholarship. This opportunity gives $750 to booksellers who are, as they describe, “traditionally underrepresented within the industry” to attend their regional trade show in the fall of 2025.

The scholarship will be given to eight booksellers to cover the cost of travel, lodging, and meals. The categories of eligibility include booksellers of color, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities. Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2025.

“Thanks to our partners, underrepresented booksellers have access to professional development and growth within the book industry,” Binc Executive Director Pam French said. “Binc is honored to work with Macmillan Publishers and the Independent Bookseller Associations to increase access.”

Per Binc, the applicants must be currently employed with a bookstore for at least 90 days, the store must be considered in good standing with trade associations, and applicants must inform store owners or managers that they are applying. Applicants will also have to answer three essay questions.

The Macmillan and Binc program committee will then chose the winners using what they described as an “identity-hidden review process.”
