BEST COLLECTED EDITION OF 2009 #9: Echo – Volume 3: Desert Run
Abstract Studio; $15.95
Photographer Julie Martin was in the proverbial wrong place at the wrong time when she witnessed a strange explosion in the desert sky. The resulting fallout covered her with a mysterious liquid metal that through the first two collections in this series manifested strange and deadly powers. She found herself pursued by the people who made the alloy (the Heitzer Nuclear Research Institute, or HeNRI) and who also killed the last person connected with it. On top of that, there’s a nameless loaner, who is also tainted with the powerful substance and who is now relentlessly tracking Julie.
This latest collection features Echo #11-15 and it’s clear that writer-artist-creator Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise) is hitting full stride with the series. Julie continues to press on as she’s tracked by the government, the forces of HeNRI, and the weird, deadly guy who keeps following her. On top of that, she that the spirit of Annie, the last person connected to the ally, seems to be resident in the metal now attached to her.
Action, adventure, intrigue, drama, and a dose of science fiction. It’s not to be missed!
