One of the surprise hits of 2005, Sci Fi Channel’s Battlestar
Galactica
puts the wraps on its first season tonight with “Kobol’s
Last Gleaming,” (Part 2). Debuting as a regular series in January 2005
after scoring a ratings coup in late 2003 as a mini-series, Battlestar
Galactica
joined Sci Fi’s Friday night line-up with Stargate SG-1 and
Stargate Atlantis to give the network its strongest performing regular
night of programming on record.

Thirteen episodes were commissioned for
this first season, but 20 have been ordered for the second. They’re set to
premiere in July.

The series, developed by Star Trek: Deep Space
Nine
producer Ronald D. Moore, is based on the original Glen A.
Larson-created show, which ran on ABC during the 1978-79 season.

While
there hasn’t been much in the way of collectibles for the current incarnation of
the show yet, don’t bet on it staying that way for long. The original series has
been the subject of novels, comic books, models and other toys. Home video is
available for the original series and the more recent mini-series.

After
you’ve seen tonight’s episode, let us know what you
think of this first season!
