Batman #1 CGC 9.4 has sold for $6 million and Superman #1 CGC 8.5 Mile High pedigree for $7 million, in a private sale facilitated by Heritage, in collaboration with SemperFi Comics. This copy of Batman #1 is the highest graded known example and Superman #1 is the second highest graded copy. The books sold together for $13 million.

The deal grew out of Heritage’s November 2025 sale of Superman #1 CGC 9.0 for a then-record comic sale of $9.12 million. Heritage Consignment Director Nathan Howerton contacted a longtime Heritage client who had a copy of the book, and they agreed to sell the client’s Superman #1 and Batman #1 together in a private sale. Jordan Seymour of SemperFi Comics worked with Heritage, dealers, and collectors to find the buyer.

“It was more than a transaction to me,” Howerton said. “It was a chance to help two friends, by placing two incredible pieces of history in a new home.”

Both books are at the top of comic book collecting both for their significance in the comics medium and collecting community. Superman #1 marked the Man of Steel’s first self-titled book, tells his origin story, has the first appearances of Ma and Pa Kent, and has the first mention of Krypton. Batman #1 introduces the Joker and Catwoman – two of Batman’s most important characters – and is the Dark Knight’s first titular comic. Adding to the gravitas, Superman #1 comes from the well known and highly respected Mile High pedigree, and Batman #1 nearly tripled the previous record for the book.

“We may be witnessing a transformational era in comic collecting,” Seymour said. “The combination of extreme rarity, global demand, and sophisticated buyers has permanently reshaped the ceiling of this market. These books are no longer simply nostalgic artifacts – they are tangible pieces of world culture.”
