Barks Painting Sells for $34,100 in Cochran Auction
most recent Russ Cochran Art Auction. From collectors to consignors, everybody
walked away a winner.
With original art from respected Fantasy artist
Gino D’Achille leading the way, the auction saw many highlights. Primary among
them was D’Achille’s original works. The artist first came to the attention of
American collectors with his paintings for the John Carter of Mars series by
Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1973. Over his career his art has graced the cover of
over 100 science fiction books. He has also made a name for himself in Romance,
Westerns and Children books.
Even with the strong sales for the D’Achille
art, the highlight for many was the sale of an original painting by Carl Barks.
Titled “Banker’s Salad,” the painting went far above pre-auction estimates and
hit $34,100 when the hammer fell.
Sales in original strip art was strong
across the board. This is the first big event for Cochran this year, please
check future issues of Scoop for news on what he has planned for the rest of the
year. Catalogs for the auction, with reproductions of every lot listed, are
still available by calling Angie or Judy at 417-256-2224.
