Comic writer and artist Jeff Smith will be appearing at Baltimore Comic-Con when the show returns to the Baltimore Convention Center on October 17-19, 2025. This will be his only convention appearance in 2025 outside of his home state of Ohio.

Smith is best known for creating and self-publishing Bone, a series that follows three cousins – Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone – after they were chased out of Boneville and must navigate an unfamiliar desert. Bone inspired many YA graphic novels and has won 48 national and international awards.

His work has been featured in RASL, Tuki, Thorn, and SHAZAN: The Monster Society of Evil. RASL, which he also self-published, won an Eisner for Best Graphic Novel. Smith, his wife Vijaya, and Lucy Caswell co-founded the Columbus comics festival, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024.

Smith is working on Bone Deluxe Edition Part One: The Valley, an oversized compilation volume reprinting the first two Bone graphic novels. It also contains bonus content like photos, early scripts, drawings, articles, and reviews. The book is the second book in the Cartoon Books Deluxe Edition series.

“Like all kids young and old, I love Bone!” Baltimore Comic-Con show promoter Marc Nathan said. “All of Jeff’s work is spectacular, but Bone holds a special place in my heart, as does Jeff. We are so excited that he is able to join us for this year’s event, and people will want to make sure they get a chance to catch Jeff at this year’s Baltimore Comic-Con!”
