If you were a fan, a vendor, a volunteer, or a person who just likes to dress up in costume- congratulations! It is because of you that the 2007 Baltimore Comic-Con was able to raise over $20,000 for the Hero Initiative and more than $2,500 for the Humane Society of Baltimore County, in the name of the late Mike Wieringo.

“The weather was great, our guests were awesome, our fans had fun, our vendors loved the enthusiasm of our fans, and the show exclusives sold out rapidly,” said Marc Nathan, the show’s promoter. “It was an excellent weekend. On behalf of everyone at the Baltimore Comic-Con, we want to extend our sincere thanks to all who joined us.”

The largest crowd on record attended the Baltimore Comic-Con on September 8-9, 2007 and was lucky enough to see two legendary comic artists, Joe Kubert and John Romita, Sr. work together for the very first time, which we’ve got it on video thanks to our friends at Variant Edition. Both of Joe’s talented sons were also nearby raising money for the Hero Initiative.

A crew of artists and writers including Brian Stelfreeze, Dexter Vines, Mark Waid, Craig Rousseau, Ron Garney, Scott Kurtz, Cully Hamner, Michael Golden, Bob McLeod, Chris Sprouse, and Georges Jeanty joined Finch and Todd Dezago at the Humane Society booth to raise money in honor of the late Mike Wieringo in order to create a permanent naming opportunity in the society’s Baltimore County facility.

After such a great show, plans are underway for next year’s event on September 27-28, 2008. The first guests announced for 2008 include Frank Cho, Amanda Conner, David Finch, Robert Kirkman, Jim Lee, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Jim Shooter. In addition, both the Hero Initiative and the Humane Society of Baltimore County will return for the next Baltimore Comic-Con.
