Hellboy and B.P.R.D. comics are populated by fantastical creatures and a few interesting humans, like Dr. Kate Corrigan. Created by Mike Mignola, Kate is the field leader for the enhanced agents of B.P.R.D., like Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, and others.

She was introduced in Dark Horse Presents #88 (August 1994) as a history professor at New York University and author of books on occult history and folklore before joining B.P.R.D. as a consultant. During one case she and Hellboy investigated murders in a small European village where Kate uses her wealth of knowledge to determine that the killers are werewolves. Corrigan became a member of B.P.R.D. during the “Plague of Frogs” story arc, becoming a liaison to the agents with special abilities.

She had a primary role in the B.P.R.D.: The Universal Machine miniseries. Kate was kidnapped while seeking ways to bring Roger the homunculus back to life. Her captor, an ageless marquis, wanted to trade her for Roger’s dead body. She escaped by destroying a ring that belonged to King Solomon that held the demon Marchosias. The demon carried the marquis and his valuables to Hell, giving Kate the opportunity to get free.

When the B.P.R.D. headquarters were attacked Kate stayed behind to protect the mummy Panya and was killed.

Outside of comics, Kate has appeared in animated Hellboy movies, including Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron, voiced by Peri Gilpin.
