Aztek, the Two Champions of Quetzalcoatl
Aztek is a superhero identity that has been used by two characters in the DC universe. Both versions are the champions of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, and both are bound to the fictional Vanity City. While acting as Aztek, each hero wears an ancient helmet and armor that uses four-dimensional energy. This gives them superstrength, enhanced speed, x-ray vision, invisibility, plasma blasts, and flight.
Uno was the first Aztek, who was created by N. Steven Harris, Mark Millar, and Grant Morrison. He debuted in Aztek, The Ultimate Man #1 (August 1996) as a man that was raised by Q Society, a secret organization that trained him to be Quetzalcoatl’s champion to fight the deity Tezcatlipoca.
Once his training was completed and he was given the magical helmet and armor, he relocated to the US and assumed the identity of Dr. Curt Falconer. He was briefly a member of the Justice League, then was blinded in battle while fighting Tezcatlipoca who was masquerading as Mageddon. During the World War III event, Aztek sacrificed himself to help Superman stop Tezcatlipoca.
Nayeli Constant became the second Aztek when she was introduced by Steve Orlando and Ivan Reis in Justice League of America #21 (February 2018). She was a software engineer from Austin, Texas who obtained the helmet and armor, then updated it for her own use. Like her predecessor, she was bound to protect Vanity City, which put her in conflict with fellow hero Ray, who was also a hero of the city. Eventually, they agreed to work together as a team.
