The biannual Awesome Games Done Quick charity gaming marathon is underway, with more than $100,000 already raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The gamers participating have shown that running in a video game can be just as effective as raising money as running in the real world.

The goal of the event is to “speedrun” dozens of games while streaming the gameplay online. Speedruns occurs when a person plays through a video game with the goal of completing it as quickly as possible. There are many subsets in the gaming community dedicated entirely to speedruns, making it more of a competitive aspect to the gaming culture.

Awesome Games Done Quick will run through January 10, 2015. This event’s fundraising goal is $500,000 – totally reasonable, given they have previously raised more than $1 million in a single event. The lineup of games includes Super Pitfall, Pokémon Red and Blue, Mario Kart Wii, Rayman Legends, Castlevania, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, among dozens of others.

Those interested can watch the live stream, check out a full schedule of events, and donate to the cause at the Awesome Games Done Quick website.
