Awarding the Inkers
Recognizing and celebrating the artistry of inking in the comic book world is the new Inkwell Awards. Bringing praise to comic inkers, the Inkwell Awards were established and are overseen by many comic book industry professionals including award founder Bob Almond of Black Panther and Annihilation: Conquest-Quasar, Tim Townsend of Uncanny X-Men and The Amazing Spider-Man, James Tournas artist of Full Moon Craze and Shylock, Bill Nichols of Sketch magazine, and Daniel Best of Andru & Esposito: Partners For Life, with support of Adam Hughes of Tomb Raider and Justice League, and senior DC Editor Mike Marts also of Uncanny X-Men and All Star Wonder Woman.
Voting for the awards runs April 1, 2008 through May 30 then the results will be posted on the official website on July 1. In addition, the site will feature biographies and commentary about nominees, impressive inkers, and a historical look at the role of inking in comics. Awards will be given for favorite inker, embellisher, an industry legend Joe Sinnott hall of fame award, and many other categories. Voting will be accumulated by fans and industry professionals, so go to inkwellawards.com to learn more about it.
