Archie, Betty, Veronica and the rest of the Riverdale crew are heading to television. Warner Brothers Studios will be producing the show, called Riverdale, along with Berlanti Productions, for Fox. The show is set to be a regular hour-long drama series.

Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions has also produced other comic book-based shows such as The Flash and Arrow for The CW. Riverdale will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who has worked on Glee and Looking, and currently is a writer on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Afterlife with Archie for Archie Comics. These two titles are some of the publisher’s bestselling offerings.

Beyond Archie and his two best gals, many other characters are set to play major roles in Riverdale’s storyline, including Jughead and Reggie Mantle. Other characters from Archie Comics’ library will also be included, such as Josie and the Pussycats.

Archie’s friend Kevin Keller will also be featured. Kevin Keller was introduced in Veronica #202 in September of 2010 and is the first openly gay character in Archie Comics’ history. He played a large part in the Life with Archie series; in issue #36 of that series, Archie sacrificed himself by taking a bullet meant for Kevin. The “Death of Archie” issue sold out at the distributor level after just a couple hours of being on sale.

Currently there are no casting details or airing date set for Riverdale.
