Aladdin’s magic carpet is taking him and his friends into comics. Dynamite Entertainment announced that the latest title from their license with Disney is based one of the most popular titles from the Disney Renaissance. The book will be written by James III (Good Burger 2 movie) and illustrated by Agnese Eterno.

Aladdin is back with the love of his life, Princess Jasmine, his best friend Abu, the trusty magic carpet, and the Genie who is still out of the lamp and free to do what he pleases. When trouble comes to Agrabah, Aladdin will need the help from all of his friends to save himself and protect the city.

Arriving in 1992, the Aladdin movie is based on a beloved story by Hanna Diyab that appeared in One Thousand and One Nights. The film follows Aladdin, a street rat of Agrabah who dreams of a better life. That wish seems within his grasp when Aladdin finds a magic lamp and the Genie inside turns him into a prince. While trying to woo Princess Jasmine and avoid the power hungry vizier Jaffar, Aladdin learns that being himself is more important than power and money.

“Writing Aladdin is an opportunity I don’t take lightly,” James III said. “Not to be old, but the Aladdin VHS was one of the few tapes we owned growing up and we wore it out! I’d run around the house imitating Genie and Iago (for which I later won the third grade talent show, thank you very much!) And my light-up Jafar staff was a prized possession. We’re doing our best to capture the flare of the original while telling new stories for today’s audience.”

Aladdin will feature covers by multiple artists, including J. Scott Campbell who created a piece that captures the essence of Jafar. Additional covers are provided by Nicoletta Baldari, Natacha Bustos, and series artist Eterno, plus blank sketch covers will be offered. The first issue is also getting a mystery blind bag with a design of the Genie’s lamp that contains three limited edition versions of the issue.
