Our own J.C. Vaughn has a Kickstarter project up and running, and it wraps in just over a week on December 5, 2025. It’s both to support the preview ashcan for his upcoming Al Capone, Vampire: Vampire War and to offer new readers a chance to catch up on what’s come before.

For those who might have missed it, Al Capone is back and he’s decided to take over Chicago again. This time, though, he’s a vampire. Vaughn created the series with artists Brendon and Brian Fraim as a spin-off of their previous work, Vampire, PA.

In the new story, someone behind the scenes is pitting Capone and his forces against those of Lady Judith, the vampire who turned Capone into a creature of the night in the first place.

It’s written by Vaughn, illustrated by the Fraim brothers, and the cover by Dan Neidlinger is available in two versions. In addition to a limited number of previous comics in the series, the Kickstarter project also offers the chance to name a character in Vampire War (and being Capone, that character is sure to be in jeopardy almost immediately) and more.

“We have a pretty cool slate for 2026, and this campaign offers everything a reader needs to be ready for it,” Vaughn said.

Among the previous cover artists whose work is available on the back issues are Howard Chaykin, Billy Tucci, Aaron Lopresti, Mark Wheatley, and Simone Gugliemini, in addition to Brendon and Brian Fraim.
