Heritage began their Comic & Comic Art Signature Auction on Thursday, June 26, 2025, and quickly set a new record. The CGC-encapsulated front and back cover wrap for Action Comics #1 sold for $408,000. It set a new record for a cover-only sale, smashing the $20,000 total that was achieved for the cover of Flash Comics #1 in January 2025, per GPAnalysis.com.

“If a few months ago someone had asked me to find them an attractive loose cover for Action Comics #1, I probably would have laughed,” Heritage Vice President Barry Sandoval exclusively told Scoop. “So, I wasn’t surprised by the fervent bidding as this may well be the only such specimen that will ever come up for sale.”

Drawn by Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, the cover introduces the Man of Steel and is considered the most famous comic book cover in history. When attached to the rest of the book, it’s the most valuable comic in the world. This may be the first time an Action Comics #1 cover wrap has been offered in a public sale, according to Heritage.

The auction continues with Friday’s floor session at 11 AM CT and continues through Sunday’s Internet session that starts at 11 AM CT.

“Friday is going to be a big day,” Sandoval said. “Frank Frazetta’s classic Famous Funnies #214 cover should lead the way, and I think you’ll need two hands to count the art lots that sell for $100,000 or more… and Saturday and Sunday we have 1,100 more lots to go.”
