For Auction #234, Hake’s has once again cultivated an incredible selection of Star Wars action figures and related toys. They are selling everything from comics and action figures that fit any budget up to the rarest and most desirable toys created for the galaxy far, far away. Bidding on these items is now open, but will close soon on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 15-16, 2022.

The earliest opportunity collectors had to get their hands on these toys was the Star Wars Early Bird Certificate Package AFA 85+. Since the toys weren’t ready yet, Kenner created this kit to satisfy the 1977 holiday demand for Star Wars action figures. The stiff illustrated cardboard envelope contains a cardboard stand, stickers, and coupons that could be redeemed via mail for the first set of four action figures that included Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and R2-D2.

Hake’s is selling figures from the earliest wave of toys, including the Luke Skywalker 12-back-C (double-telescoping) CAS 85 preserved with color touch. This 3-3/4” figure from Kenner’s 1978 toy line is the version of the figure with the lightsaber that has a second extendable piece. The card has color touch/restoration to the surface paper lifts from the price sticker removal.

Another figure from the first wave is the Jawa 12-back-A (vinyl cape) AFA 75. The 2-1/4” tall figure comes with the initial vinyl cape before it was repackaged with a cloth one. This example is on an unpunched card.

From the rarely offered multi-figure Star Wars sets, Hake’s is selling the Android Set three-pack Series 1 AFA 85. The original window box contains 2-1/4” to 4-1/4” tall figures of See Threepio (C-3PO), Artoo Detoo (R2-D2), and Chewbacca. This set was made for the 1978 toy line and the card is unpunched.

Balancing out those heroes is the Villain Set three-pack Series 1 AFA 85. Also featuring the original window box, it contains a Stormtrooper, Darth Vader, and Death Squad Commander that stand 3-3/4” to 4” tall. This set was also made for the ’78 line.

Hake’s is also selling a three-pack Series 1 box flat AFA 80+. This window box flat would go on to contain one of three different three-packs – the Hero Set (Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Obi-Wan Kenobi), the Villain Set, or the Android Set. All three sets are pictured on the back of the box flat.

Boba Fett, the bounty hunter extraordinaire, is featured in some of the auction’s highest profile lots, including the Boba Fett rocket-firing prototype (J-slot, Version 2) AFA 50 VG. Two other key Boba Fett piece are the Revenge of the Jedi Boba Fett proof card AFA 85 that features the original title before it was renamed Return of the Jedi and the Star Wars: Droids Boba Fett AFA 80 action figure with the aluminum collectors coin from Kenner’s ’85 line that promoted the Droids animated series.

Hake’s Auction #234 contains many more Star Wars action figures, proof cards, international toys, vehicles, and other collectibles. They are open for bidding through March 15-16.
