Royals: Poker and Gangsters Meet Telepathic Twins
Telepathic poker players cross the wrong gang in Image’s new crime caper, Royals. Set in the back alleys of Seoul, South Korea, the book is written by Derek Kirk Kim (The Last Mermaid) and illustrated by Jacob Perez (Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The six-issue miniseries will debut in April 2026.
Twin brothers Paul and Castor share a telepathic connection and have been using it to win at poker. But their hustle may get them into trouble when they risk everything against the leader of a ruthless crime syndicate in Seoul, South Korea.
“Royals is my love letter to crime caper and action comedy classics like Baby Driver, Rounders, and Jackie Chan films. Filter them through the panel gutters of great crime comics like Criminal and Stray Bullets, and you have Royals,” Kim said. “And at the heart of it all, there’s the love/hate tug-of-war between two brothers which anyone with siblings can relate to, I think. All crystalized through the magnificent pen of Jacob Perez! It’s my incredible honor to be tagging along on Jacob’s comic debut, a prodigious talent who is sure to go down in comics history as one of the all-time greats. I am so excited for comics fans to discover his work!”
Royals #1 features a main cover by Perez, covers B and C by Kim, and cover D (1:25 incentive) by Perez. The book will be available in comic shops on Apri l1.
