Teens Must Conform or Die in Jim Bishop’s Infantoms
Individuality clashes with high expectations in French cartoonist Jim Bishop’s graphic novel, Infantoms. The coming of age story is influenced by anime and is inspired by creators Moebius and Miyazaki. From Oni Press and Magnetic Press, Infantoms will be in comic shops in April 2026.
The pressure of conformity takes on a monstrous twist for two teenagers that fail to meet the status quo. A boy called Pizza Face isn’t a very good student, and all he wants to do is open a video game store. Mims is a girl who loves manga and rebels against the system. Both kids are called into the guidance counselor’s office to be warned that their futures are at stake and if they fail, their parents have the right to kill them. Watching their parents morph into monsters, the teenagers bond over the pressure to prove themselves and survive in the conformist world.

“A modern tale with a horrific twist, Infantoms is part of a thematic trilogy by author Jim Bishop centered around childhood and the transition to adulthood,” Magnetic Press’ Director of Publishing Mike Kennedy said. “With this work, Bishop demonstrates his creative prowess following Lost Letters and My Dear Pierrot. A tribute to manga as well as a nod to our inner child, this intimate graphic novel highlights the difficulties of social integration, society’s expectations, and the value of self-confidence and friendship. A gripping album that will haunt you long after the last page.”
Infantoms is a deluxe 244-page hardcover written and illustrated by Bishop, who also provided the cover. It will be in comic shops on April 22.
