Dynamite; $4.99

Christmas Town is going to have their very first Halloween, and Halloween Town is planning to help them get into the spooky spirit. First, Dr. Finkelstein unveils his latest creation – but instead of being a ferocious predator, what emerges is a cute, albeit very cold, creature. When the mayor and Finkelstein stomp off in disappointment, Sally bonds with the being, naming it Shiver. Elsewhere, the mayor tasks Lock, Shock, and Barrel with helping Christmas Town’s first time trick ‘r treating – nothing can go wrong there.

The Shiver of Christmas Town takes readers back to Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas for another holiday mashup. Writer Torunn Grønbekk and artist Edu Menna put in the work to capture the characters’ personalities and looks. The mayor is anxious, Sally is sweet, and the pint sized trio are full of mischief. The addition of Shiver gives readers a different perspective to appreciate as the bear-like creature witnesses how other characters respond to it and their plans for Halloween in Christmas Town.

It’s a solid first issue of the new series.
