ComicLink founder and Managing Director Josh Nathanson has announced that ComicLink will offer Todd McFarlane’s Amazing Spider-Man #309 cover from 1988. It has been added to the firm’s Winter Featured Auction that starts on February 13, 2026.

“Superstar artist McFarlane was making waves in the prime of his legendary career when he illustrated this memorable cover. It features a dynamic image of Spider-Man leaping from the foreground in a classic ‘McSpidey’ pose to avoid being blasted by one of this issue’s villains, Stone, who along with Styx makes his first appearance on this cover,” Nathanson said. “McFarlane’s covers from the Amazing Spider-Man title, within which he revolutionized the look of Spider-Man and reinvigorated a title are the most sought after of his works. On his covers, the quality of Spider-Man’s pose is one of the key features that collectors look for in order to assess the desirability of an art acquisition. This is a good one. In fact, if you look through the covers of McFarlane’s Amazing Spider-Man run, you’ll actually notice that this is one of the few that depict Spidey in such a classic pose. This cover is also filled with exceptional artistic detail, from McFarlane’s distinctive webbing, to Mary Jane’s eyelashes and her many strands of hair which the artist loops around his signature at the lower left, to the masterful linework amplifying the evil laughter emanating from the villain’s face at the lower right. There is even an interesting hand drawn partial profile of Spidey’s face in the box at the lower left.”

McFarlane’s redesign of Mary Jane Watson was a popular aspect of his run in Amazing Spider-Man. Notably, the image behind Spider-Man of M.J., is the first of only two times that M.J. appeared on a McFarlane Spider-Man cover (the other is a small image on issue 314). This includes not only his Amazing Spider-Man covers, but also those for Spider-Man and Marvel Tales.

The cover also features two new villains, Styx and Stone, who made their very first appearance on this cover.

“We love everything about this cover, as it is filled with the aspects and energy that revitalized this title, and made McFarlane a huge fan-favorite, and one of the most successful artists ever to work in the comic book industry,” Nathanson said.

ComicLink is accepting consignments of comics, art, and other certified collectibles for their upcoming auctions starting in January 2026. Potential consignors can email a prospective auction list to buysell@comiclink.com or call (617) 517-0062 (option 1). Upfront cash advances are being offered upon receipt.

There are also other ways to sell, including the ComicLink Exchange, private placement brokerage, and ComicLink even purchases outright if that is the preferred selling method.
