Harley Quinn x Elvira #3
Dynamite & DC; $4.99
Harley Quinn and Elvira have teamed up to throw the best Halloween party in town and save Elvira’s show in the process. But they need money. That’s when the Gang of Harleys get hired to take out Boffa Fungoo, a local mobster/kitchen cabinet businessman who is using any and all means to defeat his competition.
This issue picks up after Harley and her crew had a chaotic battle with Boffa and his minions, and Elvira was overwhelmed by people desperate for ice cream (naturally, the Gang of Harleys use an ice cream truck). Boffa has sworn to retaliate by hiring someone with superpowers to take them out, which leads Harley to call her old pal, Power Girl, for some backup.
Harley Quinn x Elvira keeps getting better with each issue. Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti are back in stride as the writers on a Harley book, filling it with pop culture jokes, sexual innuendos, and off the rails action. Conner provided art and colors on the first few pages, then Juan Samu took over on art, and Walter Pereyra on colors.
It has comedy and action in equal measure, from the shameless flirting to the action scenes with flying weapons and ice cream cones. The book keeps getting more absurd in the best ways possible, and adding Power Girl to the Elvira and Harley dynamic was a great move.
I laughed on nearly every page and can’t wait for the next one.
