Grim, the horror/fantasy comic about grim reapers and the afterlife, is being developed into an adult animated series by Netflix. It will be executive produced by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the team that created and showrun Wednesday, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson, the supervising director on Love, Death + Robots.

The comic was created by writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Flaviano, arriving at BOOM! Studios in 2022. It introduces Jessica Harrow, a grim reaper who has no memory of her past or how she got the job of ferrying souls to the afterlife. Jessica starts to question her own existence and goes on a journey of self-discovery that unlocks big secrets – not just about her life, but about death itself.

Grim has meant so much to me and to everyone who’s worked on it,” Phillips said. “To see it take on new life (pun intended) as an animated series with Netflix is beyond exciting, and I can’t wait for fans, new and old, to step into Jessica Harrow’s world with us.”

According to BOOM!, Grim “…quickly became one of the highest selling launches in BOOM! Studios history. The series earned critical praise for its genre-blending mythology and striking visual style. Its 25-issue run concluded earlier this month.”

Phillips and Flaviano will co-executive produce the TV series. Millar, Gough, and Aaron Schmidt will executive produce for Millar/Gough Ink. Stephen Christy and Adam Yoelin are executive producing for BOOM! Studios, with Mette Norkjaer as a co-executive producer.

The show does not have a release date yet.
