Comic artist Louis Small Jr., known for Vampirella, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, following a battle with cancer.

Originally from Tinton Falls, New Jersey, Small served in the US Army then pursued his career in comics. He attended a convention in New York City where he showed sample pages of his art to multiple publishers, leading to his assignment illustrating Vampirella at Harris Comics in the early 1990s. He would periodically return to the character over the years in Vampirella Strikes, Vampirella: Sad Wings of Destiny, Vampirella Monthly, and the 2019 ongoing series.

Throughout his career, Small worked with DC, Marvel, Dark Hose, Image, and Valiant, among other publishers. His art was featured in Solar, Man of the Atom, Dark Dominion, Xenya, Ninjak, Chaos Quarterly, and Supergirl. Small worked on Witchblade, Ka-Zar, Batman 80-Page Giant, Lady Death: The Rapture, and he and Rob Rodi co-created Codename: Knockout.

Small also provided art for Chaos Comics trading cards, movie posters, and he was a regular on the comic convention circuit.
