Universal’s Phantom of the Opera Comic Adaption in 2026
The infamous opera house and the mysterious, obsessive figure that haunts it are preparing for a new performance in Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera. The Skybound Entertainment and Image comic, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, comes from the team of Tyler Boss (You’ll Do Bad Things) and Martin Simmonds (The Department of Truth). The four-issue limited series begins in February 2026.
“What separates the Phantom of the Opera from the other Universal Monsters is that it’s the only ghost story of the lot,” Boss said. “With the Paris Opera House as our haunted site, and a production of Faust about to be performed, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect collaborator to breathe life into the Phantom of the Opera than Martin Simmonds.”
“I’m very excited to be returning to the world of the Universal Monsters for The Phantom of the Opera, this time alongside Tyler Boss, and there’s no better setting for our supernatural horror story than the beautiful architecture of the Paris Opera House and the streets of early 20th Century Paris,” Simmonds said.
Christine is a young soprano whose career and life are disrupted when the Paris Opera House is plagued by violent crimes. Despite the chaos and the figure tormenting Christine from the eaves, preparation continues for the show. She will finally learn the truth and her connection to the Phantom of the Opera when a familiar face comes back to the opera house to investigate the crimes.
“Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds have crafted a beautifully horrific tale in their exploration of The Phantom of the Opera filled with grit, tension, and all the makings of an operatic nightmare,” Skybound Senior Editor Diegs Lopez said. “It’s been a joy to see these two storytellers retell this story in a way that I don’t think fans have ever experienced but will be sure to devour.”
The Phantom of the Opera joins previous Skybound/Universal collaborations that featured Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Invisible Man. The line will continue with new Universal Monsters limited series from a variety of comic creators.
Universal Monsters: Phantom of the Opera #1 comes with cover A by Simmonds, cover B by Joshua Middleton, cover C (1:10 incentive, connecting) by Anwita Citriya, cover D (1:25 “classic horror” B&W) by Middleton, cover E (1:50 incentive) by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, cover F (1:75 incentive) by David Talaski, cover G (1:100 incentive, foil) by Baldemar Rivas, cover H blank sketch, and cover I (mask cover) by Andrea Milana and Jillian Crab.
The first issue arrives on February 25, 2026.
