The adventures in the Upside Down aren’t over yet. Stranger Things series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have announced the animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

The show will be set between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things, putting it after Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down and before the Mind Flayer found a way back into our world to rebuild itself. Eric Robles (creator of Glitch Techs) developed the show and Flying Bark Productions (What If…?) is handling the animation.

The voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt (WeCrashed) as Eleven, Luca Diaz (Erin & Aaron) as Mike Wheeler, Braxton Quinney as Dustin Henderson (Bigger), Elisha Williams (The Wonder Years) as Lucas Sinclair, Ben Plessala (Wylde Park) as Will Byers, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport (Just Add Magic) as Max, and Brett Gipson as Jim Hopper (Shameless). Janeane Garofalo, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Odessa A’zion (I Love LA) are also on board in undisclosed roles.

The announcement came via a video with comments by the Duffer brothers and Robles, and a glimpse of the animation, including concept art. The Duffers state that this animated show is one of the first ideas they had for another Stranger Things project outside of the flagship show. They shared that the goal was to “evoke a feeling of an ‘80s cartoon” and Robles added that through animation, they could capture Hawkins in a new way.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will begin soon. The season is broken into three parts with the first four episodes available on November 26, 2025, three episodes on December 25, and the series finale on December 31.
