Planet She-Hulk #1
Marvel; $4.99
She-Hulk made a promise to the Hulk that she would watch over Sakaar while he handled some off-world business. He has asked She-Hulk to keep the peace during a period of mourning, which is quite a challenge since the planet is at war.
What was meant to be a short period of peacekeeping is stretching longer than she had hoped, and She-Hulk is antsy to get back to Earth. She is asked to be the guest of honor at a wedding, and despite not wanting to go, an opportunity to get home – and fight a giant beast – persuades her to go to the event.
In Planet She-Hulk #1, writer Stephanie Phillips succinctly catches readers up on the current state of Sakaar and She-Hulk’s attitude toward her situation. She doesn’t want to be a ruler, but understands the need to keep everyone in line. While She-Hulk is taking fancy baths and beating up monsters, there are a few figures who want to make power plays to become the leaders of Sakaar. And we thought Earth weddings were a bit much.
The art by Aaron Kuder and colors by Sonia Oback are top notch on every page. Lines are clean and well defined, Kuder makes great choices on panel angles and focus, and Oback’s colors pop from the bright green skin or shades of pink that establish the world’s atmosphere.
