Hake’s Presents Original Comic Book & Strip Art in Auction #245
Hake’s premier Auction #245 has something for every type of collector, boasting several standout sections of pop culture and Americana memorabilia. Their original art section is loaded with a great mix of material with comic pages and covers, comic strips, art used for book illustrations, figural studies and more.

The Daredevil Vol. 5 #6 cover study preliminary art by Bill Seinkiewicz is an example of the artist’s innovative and groundbreaking style. For the cover, he created decoupage over various different paper elements with printed line art, giving the art a more tactile appearance with added depth, and he hand-painted the color elements. The art features Daredevil in his black Shadowland saga costume standing behind a crouching, sword-wielding Elektra.
The Ghosts #82 cover by Luis Domínguez features the horror art he was known for during the Bronze Age. The thrilling scene shows a pair of frightened acrobats terrified by the skeletal ghost that has joined their high-rise performance.

The auction includes multiple Amazing Spider-Man daily strips by John Romita. Sr. All five strips were published in August to October 1980, with the fan-favorite artist joined by writer Stan Lee. Each strip features three panels showing Spider-Man in action, a few of him unmasked as Peter Parker, plus M.J. and the Protector. The strips come from the Gary and Dawn Guzzo Collection.
In the book department, Hake’s is selling the Underdog and the Disappearing Ice Cream complete original art for the Little Golden Book published in 1975. This lot contains the cover to cover art that begins with Underdog arriving as Sweet Polly Purebread points to an empty ice cream truck. Each page measures approximately 6-5/8” x 8-3/4” with attached acetate cover and printed text stats attached. Art includes four double-page spread, two of which do not have acetate covers as those pages did not feature text as printed.

Tales of the Teen Titans #86 cover by Eduardo Barreto shows Robin, Beast Boy (in lion form), Starfire, Jericho, Wonder Girl, and Cyborg facing Church of Blood villainess Twister. While the original art depicts the characters in whole, the published cover featured an effect which segmented the Teen Titans (Twister remained unaffected) into concentric rings, which shifted portions of their bodies to the left or right, making for an interesting display of Twister’s power. Barreto has signed the art on the lower left.
Hake’s Auction #245 is open for bids now through Tuesday and Wednesday, November 18-19, 2025.
