IDW; $4.99

In 2040, the Event Horizon starship set out on a voyage to Proxima Centauri with the plan of using a Gravity Drive to open a dimensional gateway and jump from one point in space to the next. The first issue introduced the crew and set up their ill-fated jump, now the second issue begins with the crew realizing that they have landed in a hellish landscape.

It starts with the crew seeing unbelievable sights outside of the ship. Chief Engineer Yusef Quinn heads to the Gravity Drive where he is mesmerized by its power, while Dr. Jennifer Kwon witnesses multiple crew members behaving in very strange ways. As some attempt to regain control of their situation, others are tormented by horrific, twisted versions of their past mistakes.

Event Horizon Dark Descent is based on the 1997 horror/sci-fi flick, Event Horizon, in which a different crew finds the ship seven years after it disappeared. This comic written by Christian Ward with art by Tristan Jones and colors by Pip Martin fills in the blanks of where the original grew went and what they experienced.

In this issue, Ward provides the backstory for one character and gives insight into the personalities of a few others. Jones and Martin have recreated the eerie atmosphere and shock value of the movie with settings bathed in red or green or blue, and abrupt depictions of what they are facing.

The book is already keeping pace with the gruesomeness of the film as the crew is beginning to experience the effects of the nightmare they have landed in.
