Harley Quinn x Elvira #1
Dynamite & DC; $4.99
Harley Quinn is feeling frustrated because she missed Halloween last year and is desperate to have the best party imaginable. Elvira has just received troubling news about her TV show that has the Mistress of the Dark looking for solutions to her mounting problems. Enter Harley Quinn with an awesomely ridiculous idea.
Harley Quinn and Elvira are both feisty, flirty, and funny, and putting them together is a smart move by DC and Dynamite. The story is written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, the duo behind the popular Harley Quinn comic series that began in 2014 and a portion of the series that followed in 2016. Not only did they revive the energy and comedy from that series, the pair captured Elvira’s signature sauce of sexy scares.
Conner also provided art, colors, and the main cover for the issue, and she is joined by artist Juan Samu and colorist Walter Pereyra for the interior art. Together, they delivered loads of scene setting details, Harley’s exaggerated enthusiasm, and Elvira’s bemused reactions.
It’s a fun start to the crossover story with lots of potential misbehavior in the future.
