Nekron, the main villain of the 1983 animated fantasy film Fire and Ice, is set to star in his own comic special at Dynamite. The film was co-written by fantasy master Frank Frazetta, and now his granddaughter, Sara, will pen the continuation in comics with Fire and Ice Nekron.

“When I started writing Nekron, I rewatched Fire and Ice a few times and focused on the shadowy spaces in the plot,” Sara Frazetta said. “I’m the kind of person who always needs to know why, so an origin story was right up my alley. Pieces of the story came to me while walking my dogs, others in dreams – it consumed me for weeks, and I loved every moment of the process. I’m incredibly overjoyed with gratitude that Dynamite asked me to do this. Thank you to the entire team for allowing me to rediscover the pure joy of creation.”

Lord Nekron rules over Icepeak, using the knowledge of the dark arts that he learned from his mother, Queen Juliana. His magic is strong enough to move glaciers and begins a war between his land and the Firekeep.

The comic by Sara Frazetta is a “cautionary tale of grief, rage, and the ultimate corruption of ambition. After her royal spouse was burned alive before her eyes, Queen Juliana turned her back on the gods of balance and pledged her life to the Wolf-God, Ulghir,” per the synopsis. “In secret, she bled for him. In silence, she absorbed his teachings. And then, in darkness, she gave birth to two sons – one conceived in love, the other from black magic – thus setting in motion the tragic events that spell doom for the Realms of Ice and Fire!”

Fire and Ice Nekron will feature art by Geof Isherwood (Doctor Strange). It comes with covers by Dan Panosian, Jae Lee, and Steve E. Gordon.

There’s a fourth cover mystery blind bag variant that comes with two copies of the issue that are exclusive to the blind bag. One is a Blank Authentix edition and the other is one of five unique variant art editions. In total 70% of the bags have the fourth cover with trade dress and others come with black and white line art or virgin variations of the three main covers.
